SUCCESS: We cannot guarantee success. However, our baited black bear hunts are extremely successful. In fact, since we started guiding hunters, all of our hunters have got a bear! This does not mean we guarantee success, but our history will show you how good our hunts are. Come experience a high success, exciting hunt! All black bears in the area are black color phase. Some do have white patches on the chest.
ARRIVAL: Once you get to Anchorage, you can rent a car at the airport and take a scenic drive north 100 miles (about 1 1/2 hour drive) through beautiful Chugach Mountains to meet up with us at departure area.
BEFORE THE HUNT: Before the baited black bear hunting adventure, we will have you shoot your gun or bow to make sure that it’s zeroed in. We recommend arriving to Alaska 1 day before your hunt to be refreshed and ready. Alaska law does allow hunting the same day you fly on baited hunts. We will arrive at black bear camp the same day we hunt.
Alaska Baited Black Bear Hunting
Enjoy a high success black bear hunt with Alaska’s Ultimate Trophy Hunting! We run our Alaska baited black bear hunts in Unit 16. We are hunting an area 125 northwest of Anchorage accessible only by small plane. We have the use of ATVs to access bait sites. All baits have game cameras on the baits 24 hours a day to monitor bear feeding activity. The area is in a predator control area known for high densities of black bear. The terrain is scattered with black spruce, birch forests as well as thick under brush, grass and devils club. The black bears feel safe in these wooded areas.
We will eat dinner before we go out to the bait site for the night hunt. We will go out to the bait site to hunt around 8pm to 3am. This is when bear activity is prime time. We will also take snacks and water to the site to snack on while we watch the black bears. We use strong scents and sexual attractants to draw bears in for miles as they come out of hibernation after months in the den. The boars are always on the move looking for sows to breed with. The bears in the area have very thick and silky fur due to the cold temperatures they endure while there are in the den over the winter months.
After we come in from the night’s hunt we will get into bed and sleep late into morning. Then get up get some breakfast. We will rest most of the day until dinner and do the hunt again. This area has a breathtakingly beautiful view of mount Denali in the background (20,320 ft).
There is certainly lots of opportunity for pictures and videoing bears as they come and go to and from bait sites.
CAMP: This will be a remote “spike camp” with waterproof bomb shelter tents, cots, sleeping pads, lavatory (outhouse), and showers.
FOOD: We use mountain house brand foods, as well as bread, bagel, cheese, crackers, cookies, jerky, lunch meats, summer sausages, candy bars, various snacks, breakfast meals, and drink mixes.
GEAR: Airplane weight will limit us to a maximum of 50 pounds of gear for each hunter. Get a gear list for the baited black bear hunts here.
WEATHER: The weather can vary. It's generally dry but rain gear is still required. Low temps average around 50 degrees and highs can reach 70 of higher.
CARE OF TROPHY: We will skin your black bear as well as remove skull and feet in field. If time allows, we flesh and salt hide in the field to preserve your trophy until a taxidermist can prep hide for tanning.
WE PROVIDE: All camping equipment, all food/water, shelter, cooking equipment. Anything required to conduct the contracted hunt will be provided minus personal gear and weapons and ammo of the hunter.
YOU PROVIDE: Hunting license, black bear tag, black bear harvest ticket, gun/bow, bullets/arrows, personal gear, binoculars, zero-degree rated synthetic sleeping bag, 30 caliber gun and/or bow with a 50 pound minimum draw.
