There is nothing like hunting moose in Alaska. The difficult to explain the feeling you get, and the adrenaline rush of calling in a mature bull moose. It's truly an adventure you have to experience with us. Hearing that massive bull before you see them is heart-pounding experience. The greatest part about these hunts for me is the anticipation of seeing that moose as he responds to the calls. Not knowing how big the bull until he steps out for me is the part of the excitement that I enjoy. I’ve hunted Alaskan moose for over 30 years and my preferred method to hunt is by calling. Posing as a pleading cow and having a bull moose grunt back to say that it’s “coming to the rescue” is the most amazing sound a moose hunter ask for. This is primarily a tactic during the rut--which is in September. We only offer hunts in September because we don’t like to fill bookings on inferior hunting times. It's important to use that you get what you pay for--a great hunt. That can't be promised in the early and later part of the seasons so we hunt the rut only.

As the hunter, on of the best things you can do to help bring about a successful moose hunt is to be aware. Although we tend to hunt the edges of timer waiting for that monster bull moose to come out in the open, we may have situations where we are in thick areas, or tall grass. Being aware of your surroundings as well as having your weapon ready especially during those up close and personal situations is so crucial. As your Alaskan guide calls a bull in during the rut, and by the time we determine the size of the bull, you may only have a shot window of seconds before that big bull decides to bolt in the other direction. If you have a range finder, take the time to range the areas so that you know your shooting distances. So that you are once again prepared to take your shot. Other than that, being patient and having a willingness to listen you’re your guide is also important. After that it’s on us to do what we can to get you in front of a trophy bull moose—and we are up to the challenge!
When we are afield, our biggest factor is the wind when moose hunting in Alaska. This is especially true when you’re trying to get one in bow range. We must always be patient and make sure that we stay down wind of these monster bulls or they will bust us with their incredible sense of smell. When you’re in that close for a bow shot, swirling gusts can definitely make-or-break your stalk on that trophy moose.
